PGA Tour Superstore to open in Plano9.22.2006- Sandra Zaragoza - Dallas Business Journal
Golf is big business in Texas.
Maybe it's the weather, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, the number of well-known golf courses or the booming population. Whatever it is, retailers have caught wind of the money to be made near the greens.
Georgia-based Golf & Tennis Pro Shop Inc. is hoping to serve North Texas' golf fanatics with its PGA Tour Superstore in Plano.
The growing retailer has leased a 65,506-square-foot space in Preston Village at Preston Road and State Highway 121. The store is set to open in spring 2007. Darrell Hernandez, of Dallas-based United Commercial Realty, represented The PGA Tour Superstore and Preston Village.
Plans call for a second Metroplex location in 2007.
The retailer has PGA Tour Superstores in Georgia and Florida.
In Atlanta, the superstores bring golf course fun indoors by offering customers hitting bays, swing simulators that analyze a player's swing, and technology-based club fittings.
The superstores also dedicate about 7,500 square feet of space to a store-within-a-store concept, Serious Tennis. Some stores house a full-size tennis court.
In addition to golf and tennis apparel, the store stocks golf-themed home furnishings.
Of course, North Texas already has its share of national-level golf purveyors, including Golfsmith, with five stores in the North Texas area, and Golf Galaxy, which has three locations in the area.
